Karla's Kids Story
Eight years ago I lost my best friend, Rascal. He was the one constant with me through all my stuggles and hard times. He was always there, waiting patiently for me at the door, greeting me with smiles and kisses when I came home. Then he got sick and died. I have never felt such profound sadness in my life. He took a big piece of my heart with him. A pawprint shaped piece of my heart was missing.
This last year we lost our 10 yr old Golden Lab, Shelby. She came through the shelter 3 times and tested positive for heartworms. The shelter was full, so we took her in as a foster, got her adopted, and then her owner died 3 weeks later. It was a sign that she was meant to stay with us. So, we got her through her treatment, and she was healthy and happy, but the damage was already done. She unexpectedly died 10 months later. She is the perfect example of a shelter dog who needed a good home, and was such a great dog that we couldn't let her go. I wanted more for her, but at least her last days were filled with happiness and love. We also lost our 13 yr old Yellow Lab, Buddy this year . He had a long, good life with us, but we still miss his big dumb smile and goofy personality. Rest in Peace old friend.
I volunteer at least three days a week, in several different departments, and the animals and staff give me purpose in life. Since I have been unable to work for over 10 years now, it is difficult to feel useful and needed. There I can make a difference. I get to work with the animals, take care of them in the clinic, adopt them out, foster scared or sick dogs until they find their happy tails. I get to see first hand how and where the donated money helps, so I am proud to donate, and ask you to as well, if you have a little to spare.
In Loving Memory of Rascal, Shelby, Buddy and all our four legged friends who have left us too soon, I ask you to help me save them all until they can find their fur-ever homes.
